The Centre for Waste Management and Centre of Excellence for Energy Research organized a one-day training cum workshop on "Compressive Strength of Novel, Conventional, and Reinforced Composites - Testing and Evaluation (CoNCReTE). Participants from National Engineering College, Kovilpatti and students from Department of chemical Engineering have participated in the event. The day began with an in-depth presentation that covered the essential principles of compressive strength and its calculation concepts followed by a practical demonstration of a compressive testing machine, giving attendees a chance to apply the theoretical concepts in a hands-on setting. Later presentation on Eco-friendly low carbon footprint Binder - Geopolymer and its application have provided latest research in the field of civil engineering. The event demonstrated the advancing knowledge and providing valuable learning opportunities in concrete technology and materials science, making it an enriching experience for all involved. All the participants were provided with the certificates.

Centre for Waste Management, Centre of Excellence for Energy Research and Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology has organized a one-day training and workshop to introduce the participants to the important characterization techniques solid-state NMR and ATR FT-IR spectroscopy - data acquisition and interpretation in the research to identify/analyse the compounds present in the newly synthesised materials. This training cum workshop was benefitted from students from various backgrounds like food technology, civil engineering, bio-technology and mechanical engineering. The topics were covered to connect the significance of the techniques for the various fields of applications as the participants were from wide domain. Graduate students and researchers from Paavai Engineering College, Namakkal National Engineering College, Kovilpatti, Sastra Deemed University, Thanjavur and our own institution participated and derived benefits from the workshop. The event started with insightful lectures on the importance of characterization, followed by a session on data plotting and analysis using Origin 8.5 software. Later, participants got hands-on experience with the ATR FT-IR spectrophotometer. All attendees received certificates to mark their accomplishment.

In celebration of World Ozone Day 2024, Centre for Waste Management, Centre of Excellence for Energy Research, in association with the Department of Chemical Engineering, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology organized a guest lecture on "Global Environmental Issues and Remedial Measures.". The event was inspiring and brought together experts, enthusiastic academicians, and industrial professionals to raise awareness about ozone layer protection and explore sustainable solutions by research activities. The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Dr.T.Sasipraba, who also gave an overview of the various initiatives taken up by Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology towards Climate Action. We were honoured to have Dr. S.V. Srinivasan, Senior Principal Scientist, Department of Environmental Engineering, from CSIR - Central Leather Research Institute, Chennai and shared valuable insights on the Montreal Protocol and strategies to reduce ozone depletion through reuse and recycling and adopting sustainable energy sources. Our B.Tech Chemical Engineering students raised awareness through creative activities like face painting and thumb painting to promote the message of saving the Earth. The day concluded with a rally to mark the importance of World Ozone Day. The undergraduate Chemical Engineering students participated in the rally.

Centre for Waste Management, Centre of Excellence in Energy Research and Department of Chemical Engineering, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University) commemorating World Environment Day organized a National Level Symposium on Alternate Research Initiatives for Sustainable Environment "ARISE 2023" on June 14, 2023. The Environment Day symposium was a thought-provoking event that brought together experts, enthusiasts, and concerned individuals to raise awareness about environmental issues and explore sustainable solutions. The symposium aimed to inspire action and promote a deeper understanding of our collective responsibility towards sustainable development. Participants were encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices, promote environmental awareness in their communities, and support organizations working towards sustainable development.

Around 100 participants have participated in the event out of which 50 school students from Government High School, Kumizhi village, Chengelpet. The Scientific team delivered a lecture on Waste Audit to create awareness on the different kinds of waste generated and how significant accounting of waste is for valorization into value added products. Poster / model display, environmental awareness quiz and waste audit competitions were conducted. The winners of the event were applauded with prizes and all the participants were provided with participation certificates.

The highlights of the programme was to remove the stigma and fear attached, recognise the early signs and symptoms of cancer, educate the key risk factors and inform the importance of regular screening and check ups. Centre for Waste Management, Centre of Excellence for Energy Research and Department of Chemical Engineering, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in association with Waste to Wealth Entrepreneur's (W2WE)Club organized a "An Interactive Workshop on Biogas New Concept -Resource Recovery" for the Undergraduate Students in Chemical Engineering ".The students were given an overview of the German Technology -Indian Engineering built Mobile Biogas Plant with Power of Nature mechanism ensuring higher and consistent yields of Biogas by maintaining the homogeneity of the organic substrate and the anaerobic microorganisms that digest the organic waste. The workshop is an initiative of Dr.Mangalam Balasubramaniam, Founder of W2WE Club who for the benefit of the students and the researchers connected Mr.Thomas Dory, President, Kankyo Bert Pvt.Ltd and Mr.Dev Anand, Chairman and Managing Director Kankyo Group of Companies. The experts delivered the technology to the students in the simplest way possible, making the session interactive. The advantages of the technology were well delivered. A video tour of their technology implemented in other locations was made. About 70 students from the Department of Chemical Engineering benefited from the workshop. Mr.Dev expressed his acceptance in collaborating with the Centre for Waste Management to provide a platform for the learning community of Sathyabama to pursue Internship, training and research participant.

Centre for Waste Management, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University) for commemorating Zero Discrimination Day organized an Outreach Programme "Educate and Empower Women" on 1st March, 2022 at Kumizhi Village, Chengalpet for the Self Help Group Women. Importance of Domestic Waste Recycling and usage of Waste Cooking Oil were highlighted by Dr.Dawn S S, Professor ( Research). The adverse impacts of used cooking oil on the Environment and Health were also illustrated to the participants elaborately. Ms.P.Priyadharsini, Scientific Assistant from Centre for Waste Management demonstrated the procedure of soap making from waste cooking oil. The participants were also actively involved and got the hands-on training for making soap from used cooking oil.There were around 15 participants who benefited from the programme. The CWM team also introduced the POOMANAM brand to the Self Help Group which contained four members who were already associated in incense stick making for Ritual Waste. Dr.Dawn encouraged the team to get empowered with the livelihood earning skills of soap and incense stick making and make themselves equipped to fight discrimination in terms of gender. This way the participants were encouraged to become earning members , supporting the men of their family, henceforth be not a victim to discrimination.

Centre for Waste Management, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University) organized a One day training cum workshop on Emission analysis and data interpretation on 25th February, 2022 at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology. Around 25 vehicles including 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers (auto) and 4 wheelers were tested for emission using the Emission Analyser (Gasboard-5020H, Wuhan Cubic Apto Electronics Co.Ltd.,) . Around seven students from Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering, Perambulur participated in the training Programme. The data acquired was interpreted for the participants. Vehicular test reports were distributed to the vehicle owners.
