The 34th Children’s Science Congress – 2025, organized jointly by the Tamil Nadu Science Forum (South Chennai District) and the Centre for Waste Management, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, was successfully conducted on 21 November 2025 at the university campus. The program revolved around the focal theme “Sustainable Safe Water Management.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from schools across the district, with 82 student science projects evaluated,164 student participants and 72 teachers and parents actively engaging in discussions, presentations, and interactions. The event began with an inaugural addressed by Dr.T.Sasi Praba, Director innovations Sathyabama institute of Science and Technology, Sathyabama University,
highlighted the growing need for nurturing scientific curiosity in young minds. She emphasized the importance of empowering students to identify local problems and develop science-based solutions, especially in the context of water security and sustainability. Her motivating words set an inspiring tone for the day. From 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM, students presented their innovative science projects under the CSC theme. The projects showcased creative solutions in water management, pollution control, resource recovery, and emerging environmental technologies. Evaluators appreciated the scientific temper, teamwork, and presentation skills displayed by the young participants. A parallel session for parents and teachers was held from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. Mr. R. Dhananjayan (Retd.) BARC-F, Department of Atomic Energy, Kalpakkam addressed the gathering on the theme “Role of Teachers and Parents in Shaping Future Students.” He highlighted the importance of early scientific exposure, the role of mentorship, and the need for supportive learning environments. The interactive discussion gave participants an opportunity to share perspectives and learn from one another. The post-lunch session began with a welcome by Dr. S. S. Dawn, Professor (Research) and Head, Centre for Waste Management. This was followed by the “Meet the Scientist Program” featuring Dr. Indumathi, Scientist, Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) and Dr. T. S. Natarajan, Professor of Physics (Retd.), IIT Madras. Both scientists delivered engaging and insightful talks on the beauty of scientific thinking, the importance of curiosity-driven research, and the need for young learners to explore interdisciplinary domains. Their interaction with students inspired many to consider careers in science and research. The Valedictory Address was delivered by Mrs.V.Ambika, President, TNSF South Chennai zone who appreciated the students’ efforts and reiterated the institution’s commitment to promoting scientific outreach and community-oriented research. Announcement of Selected Projects & Vote of Thanks were delivered by Mr. Rajasimhan, Deputy Secretary, South Chennai TNSF, introduced the evaluators and volunteers. Selected projects for state-level participation were announced by Mr. Chandran Subramani, Indian Maritime University, Chennai & District Coordinator, and Mrs. V Ambika. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. S. Sudhakar, District Secretary, TNSF, who expressed gratitude to all participants, schools, volunteers, evaluators, staff, and the organizing team for their support in making the program a grand success. The 34th CSC – South Chennai District program successfully Fostered scientific thinking among students, built a platform for collaborative learning, strengthened community awareness on sustainable water management, created meaningful interactions between students, educators, scientists, and parents. The event stood as a remarkable celebration of science, creativity, and youth innovation.
