An Internship on Zero wastes Zero warming – 17th to 21st of October, 2011
The Centre for Waste Management, Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University) organized an internship on "Zero Waste Zero Warming" for the Under Graduate Students from the United States of America, in association with World Learning India, Rajasthan from the 17th to 21st of October, 2011.Students representing Carleton College, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Yale University and Gettysburg College from the United States of America participated in the Internship. The Internship successfully fulfilled its objective of explaining the Role of the youth in India's sustainable development- focusing on waste management, urban development, education, and social responsibility. As a part of the Internship, Field Trips to Solid Waste Management Site at Mahabalipuram, managed by Hand in Hand SEED Trust and Chennai Metro Water and Sewerage Board Treatment Site at Nesapakkam, were arranged. A Interactive Session for the Indian and US students, a presentation on "Solid Waste Management Societal & Technical Aspects" by Mr.Parisutham, Hand in Hand , a Waste Minimization Laboratory Demo on the production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil were some of the other highlights of the Internship. Honorable Chancellor Col.Dr.Jeppiaar, as a measure of encouragement distributed participation Certificates to the students from the US on the closing day of the Internship.
